Two DVD’s in one package. The first concentrates on technique. Steve is obviously a natural teacher and genuinely wants to impart his knowledge. He demonstrates, in great detail, the Moeller technique with the sticks and a fabulous bass drum technique, which he picked up from Freddie Gruber. However there weren’t a lot of exercises to be learnt, the focus is on technique and posture and how to practice. The second DVD: History of the US Beat is a really good show in its own right. Anyone with an interest in music history should see this. Steve and his Historical Band play their way through different musical styles, from 1920’s Rags to Steve’s own modern Fusion band, Vital Information. Steve’s kit and playing technique evolve with the music. This insight into the evolution of the drum set and drum set technique has made a real impact on my playing, encouraging me to loosen up and play more tasteful, and spacious musical phrases.
